Atop a local residential area, our private ground floor unit is a peaceful refuge close to tons of recreation. We are 4 blocks from Balneario La Monserrate, a Blue Flag Beach consistently rated in the top 3 of Puerto Rico’s 300+ beaches, and walking distance from Playa Fortuna, Luquillo Beach, Playa Azul and Playa La Pared. We are 2 miles from Carabalí Rainforest Adventure Park, and just 4 miles from the park entrance of El Yunque National Forest – the only tropical rainforest in the US National Park Service!

After you’ve dusted off the sand, had your walk among giant rainforest leaves, sipped your authentic piña colada, and taken in a bit of the culture, enjoy the security and comfort of our home away from home. Our 100% Solar Powered, spacious, and amply appointed accommodations afford you comfort with stable wifi and reliable, renewable energy.

Sip your morning coffee out front on our exterior slab benches to take in the hilltop water views, or conversely, enjoy a cool drink out front and watch the sunset colors and night sky. Retractable awnings make these benches an attractive relaxation spot on sunny afternoons as well.

In our freshly made kitchen you’ll find all the cook’s best friends – new appliances, proper utensils and flatware, and everything you’ll need should you choose to cook. Enjoy the sea view from the built-in booth or spread out on our conventional dining table. Our “wave” ceiling fans efficiently keep the common areas cool and comfortable.

Off to the corner of the living room is a dedicated work-space with grounded outlets, USB ports, and high-speed internet for when you feel like journaling, writing, or simply knocking out some of those persistent office tasks and Zoom meetings. Thanks to our new wifi extender, the unit has a strong signal throughout (ranging from 300 to 500 mbs).

When you’re ready to relax and play a board game, some cards, read a book or stream something on our mounted 50″ Vizio SmartTV, we have a deep and comfortable sofa you can sink into.

If you need anything before you arrive or while you’re here, we have our own little guest shop full of essentials and services that we continue to add to and improve. So, if you’d like to arrive to a Charcuterie Board, a pre-stocked kitchen, relax with a soda or a snack, book a mid-stay clean or a check-out time extension, or forgot your toothbrush, we’ve got you covered! In addition to following Airbnb cleaning protocols, we disinfect the entire unit with UVC Light (Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation) Treatments before every arrival. Uber and a few local taxi companies service our area, but availability can be sporadic and wait times typically range from 5 to 15 minutes, sometimes more. There is no public transportation in our area. We live at the top of a large hill, so walking down to the beach is easy-peasy, walking back up not so much… Having a car here is strongly recommended.

Driving:
As mentioned elsewhere, rental cars are by far the best option for getting around our area independently. That said, extra caution and periodic deep breathing is important for motorists new to the area, as the driving culture here is unusually aggressive (though not mean-spirited), and the road quality is inconsistent (read: frequent potholes, uneven pavement, drainage trenches and unmarked speed bumps). If you stay cool and take your time, other drivers will do their thing and work around you. Practicality tends to trump following rules of the road here.

Walking:
Outside of downtown municipal areas, development patterns in Puerto Rico are not particularly pedestrian friendly. Please watch traffic lights and take care when crossing major roads, as drivers do not always yield for pedestrians. Once down by the sea, the best walking/jogging is definitely on the long beach stretches of our shoreline, which is reliably pleasant.

In most cases I will be here to open the gate for you on arrival, and answer any questions you may have. I will give you your space during your stay while remaining available to resolve any problems or concerns.

Lucky You, Low-Key You, Luquillo -Puerto Rico

Called the “Riviera of Puerto Rico,” and also known as “The Sun Capital” and “The City of Eternal Summer,” Luquillo is a favorite local destination. Less than half an hour from SJU (San Juan International Airport) and Old San Juan, Luquillo boasts easy access to internationally acclaimed Blue Flag beaches and El Yunque National Forest (the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. Park System). Here you’ll also find world class golfing facilities at nearby 5-star resorts, some of the best surfing on the island, reefs for snorkeling, after-dark kayak excursions in bioluminescent waters, good hiking in El Yunque’s cloud forest, warm waterfalls, river rock waterslides and cool swimming holes, Carabalí Rainforest Park adventures, picturesque back roads to local chocolate farms and more. If you’re hungry, right here is Borinquen, fusion and nuevo cuisine, vegan and vegetarian fare, juice bars and fine dining, as well as great BBQ and street food.

Go horseback riding on beach and rainforest trails, or supervised pony rides for the tots, jet-skiing, air-boarding, sail-boarding, parasailing, paramotoring, mountain biking, kayaking, zip-lines, ATVs, go-karts, and hay-rides. All in our area! Fhew!!

The celebrated Luquillo Kiosks at the bottom of our hill boast 50+ Borinquen restaurants, souvenir shops, and bars with their own seaside scene… and nightlife. The nearby Luquillo town center (just 2.9 miles / ~5 mins away) has a charming square that comes to life after church service, when local kids bring out all manner of bikes, scooters, and skates to enjoy the cool evenings. Live BorinquenJazz music at the C-Note is to be found half a block from the square as well as lively nightlife at the Boardrider’s Cafe and other local pubs.

In addition to local shops, and bakeries, we’re minutes from major U.S.-chain grocery, drug stores and fast food. There’s even a nearby outlet mall with a sick arcade, bumper cars, indoor and outdoor go-karts, movie theater, 3-story climbing structure, modern bowling alley, playland for the tots complete with ball pits, and numerous virtual reality simulator rides, not to mention food court, sushi, coffee and old people expectalbes. What’s more, we’re just a 20 min drive to the ferry terminal servicing the smaller islands of Vieques and Culebra.

Then after all that you can come back and sink into the comforts of our newly renovated, fully outfitted ocean view unit and recharge!

Uber availability can be sporadic our area, so the best way to get around independently is car rental.

1. Please book our space for yourself. We will not work through third parties.

2. Our goal is your comfort, but it’s important to acknowledge that the power grid here in Puerto Rico is unstable and outages can happen. Municipal water pumps are electric, so city-wide outages affect Luquillo’s water supply as well. We do have back up facilities, and most outages are short-lived. We suggest guests needing *guaranteed* uninterrupted service during extended utility outages consider instead staying in one of the many local resorts. As they are the only facilities equipped to provide continuous service during extended outages, the expense may be worth it.

Otherwise, we welcome your understanding and collaboration during these occurrences. We are delighted to open our home to those seeking an authentic local experience, and will do our utmost to make it comfortable for you.

3. SERVICE ANIMAL OWNERS: Please respect that there are allergies and it will cause health problems if you bring your animal in our unit. Please choose a pet-friendly home instead. Thank you.

4. We want you to enjoy yourselves while visiting, but we kindly ask no parties, no smoking, no vaping and no drug activities in the apartment while staying with us.

5. Nightly occupancy must not exceed what is originally arranged, so please no unexpected guests.

6. Our neighborhood is zoned “rural” and our neighbors have horses and chickens, some in the back even have cows and donkeys. We provide complementary ear plugs and white noise machines for light sleepers, but guests should keep in mind that coqui frogs and roosters sing their songs here at night.

  • 1) Valid government-issued photo ID required for every adult guest included in the reservation. For health and safety, we need to know who all is staying with us, just like any hotel or guesthouse would. Photo(s) of the ID should be submitted to host as a message attachment on this platform or via our secure email (disclosed after booking) within 48 hours of arrival. No third party bookings. 2) No parties, no smoking, no vaping and no drug activities in the apartment while staying with us. The fee for smoking in the unit is $500. Nightly occupancy must not exceed what is originally arranged, so please no unexpected guests. Quiet hours after 10 PM. 3) Owner lives on premises. Guest access is restricted to the unit's street level facilities in the front of the house to respect owner privacy. Access to the upper drive and rear of the property is strictly prohibited. Please observe signage. 4) Check-in any time between 4 PM and 10 PM. After hours check-in must be requested in advance, otherwise there will be a $40 inconvenience fee. Check-out time is 10 AM unless otherwise arranged. 5) A short term rental contract with a $400 refundable security deposit is required for families traveling with children under the age of seven, guests with service animals, and all stays longer than 28 days. All service animal owners must upload proof of service animal certification. and proof of a topical flea treatment 72 hours prior to arrival at the property as a message attachment on this platform. There will be a $500 remediation fee if fleas are found upon departure. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are service animals ever to be left alone in our unit. Any incidence of such is grounds for immediate guest removal without refund. 6) Our cleaning fee is below-cost. In exchange for the reduced fee we ask guests the courtesy of a few pre-check-out tasks to help changeovers go smoothly. Guests can opt out of these chore requirements by notifying us in advance and instead paying the $150 cleaning fee in full prior to departure. For all extended stays of two weeks or more, guests must permit unit access twice monthly for professional cleaning and maintenance. Guest(s) shall remit the fee for these cleanings through this booking platform. 7) We are now 100% solar, but water outages do still sometimes occur. Our 600 gallon cistern helps even-out these occurrences, but as government utility services are beyond our control, we cannot provide refunds for bookings affected by extended outages. We strongly suggest that guests purchase travelers insurance, as both weather conditions and government services can be unpredictable here and only large resort facilities are equipped to operate normally during extended public utility outages. 8) No commercial filming without permission. 9) Guests must pay in full for their mini-bar consumption and any “E’s Essentials” guest shop purchases prior to departure using the QR code provided. Otherwise, the cost of any missing items plus a 10% restocking fee will be charged to the payment method on file after departure. 10) Lost or damaged gate opener or door keys will be charged to the guest at $250.
